Biography

Joy Lee, Violin Soloist

Ms Lee’s solo career started at the age of 14 performing J.S. Bach’s concerto for violin and orchestra in E major with the Korea Sinfonietta in the city of Seoul, where she was born, she studied with professors Hoyoung Pi, and Rinjong Yang.

A bit later she started her studies in the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia.

At the age of 18 she decided to re-locate to Stuttgart, Germany. This wonderful country would be her home for the following 10 years. She studied with teachers in Germany and travelled to France, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, to study with well known professors such as Stefan Georghiu and Tomasz Tomaszewski.

Ms Lee has had an interest in the –slowly disappearing- east European sound, which has many regional subtle variations. The iron curtain kept many of these old traditions alive in the East. This led her to move to the city of Weimar and later Erfurt, both in former communist Germany. She studied in the Weimar Musikhochschule and performed as a violinist with the Erfurt Opera House orchestra.

Chamber music was an important component of her career, especially while studying in Stuttgart Germany. She toured the neighbouring areas of Switzerland, France, South Tyrol (Germanic Italy), and Austria, with Dr. Werner Keltsch’s chamber music ensemble, Musica Viva.

She currently resides in Toronto where she is active as a soloist and educator.
